If you are lucky enough to embark on a road trip like this here one, here are some examples of the Yucatan's local flora and fauna you may encounter:
In any given Mayan ruin you will likely meet some jolly iguanas who smile "¡bienvenidos!" at you as best they can.
…if you're here in April, you may see the tamarind trees in bloom.
…here's an orange-and-black Altamira oriole.
…and a young Yucatan jay, with his black head, yellow legs and beak, and bright blue body.
…some jumbo-size, jungle-riffic cockroaches. Note this guy is safely on the OUTside of the hotel's window screen. Yeah, he's about 3 inches long and 1-1/4" wide. Watch where you walk at night.
aaaaannnd, wolf spiders who obligingly lurk near you, hoping to nab those pesky gnats and mosquitos for you. You know – so you can sleep better.
