Who has time for photos when there are so many things to do?
Darlene T. and her pup Scruffy, crew of Kia Ora, and I took beach walks while Cap'ns Tom and GB spent their time getting skunked while dinghy fishing. Kayaks were paddled. Dinners were shared. More boats arrived bringing the total tally to 6.
The weather forecasts for November 29, 2016, called for southwest-to-westerlies increasing in force. The only uncertainty was whether it would start to blow within the next 36 hours, or 60 hours.
As it turned out, on November 30 at about noon – 30 hours exactly – the breeze increased to the range of mid-teens to low 20s from the west before clocking north. The fleet remained undeterred in their morning activities, which for me meant snorkeling along the caleta's north cliff face in a shortie wetsuit. The seas were becoming green and choppy, but I was pleased to see lots of schools of a variety of fish everywhere. Zipping around to windward in Mr. Dinghy was good for wetsuits too, as a lot of chop was coming over the bow. Refreshing.
I scored some decent seashells while combing the very steep-to NW beach, including a few DuPettit's spindles, and a couple of sundials and cones. Nice. [photo by B.E. Vaughan, 2001, wsu dot edu]
As afternoon came upon us, the increasing breeze kicked up chop and whitecaps throughout the bay so it was back to The Fox with us. The Fox begins to swing and roll in the turbulent air but it and the rest of the fleet continue to hold fast…
