Meet Darlene T.

Darlene and Scruffy enjoying a walk at Agua Verde 12-7-2016Darlene is the kind of true friend we all wish to have.

Tom on s/v Kia Ora lucked out tremendously when Darlene, a good friend to Tom and Tom's wife, offered to take the time to help him sail Kia Ora from San Carlos, Sonora, to La Paz, Baja California Sur. Darlene valued the friendship more than she was concerned about the fact that she had never sailed a boat before in her life. She also mentioned that she thought the voyage would be a nice way to break out of her usual routine.

Darlene certainly did step out of her usual routine. She traveled to a foreign country with her loyal dog Scruffy. She climbed aboard a sailboat occupied by another human with his own dog. She adapted to living in a small space. And her very first day aboard, she sailed out of sight of land and into an overnight passage. That is the kind of toughness and fearlessness GB and I admire.

Darlene was fun to be around because she clearly enjoyed and appreciated the full experience of what she'd gotten herself into. She takes good photos, too.

She and Scruffy completed the voyage in about 6 weeks. I can't vouch for Scruffy, but at journey's end Darlene was still as full of smiles as she'd been at the beginning.

We're very glad to have spent some time together, Darlene. You are a rare gem.
