Montague Malfunction

We left Sidney five days ago headed to Maple bay – no wonder the Canadians looked at me funny when I said we were heading there. Although given rave reviews by at least two publications (who probably got paid for the complements) Maple Bay was filled with skanky livaboard tugboats – with no room to anchor. We then went over to Burgoyne Bay – guess what – it also was filled up with 30 foot long abandoned sailboats. We dropped hook next to what looked like an abandoned buoy – and – who should show up but some Canadian guys coming in from crabbing on a 35 year dilapidated sailboat. We shortened scope, withstood the stink eye we received, and had another martini. We are now in Montague Harbor – we left earlier – but returned when facing 25 knot headwinds this would have made the 25 mile trip through Porlier Pass a bit too hazardous for the likes of us. We are off to Silva Bay tomorrow.

Dean and Diane were a couple of boats down from us at the marina in Friday Harbor. didn’t really know them other than saying hello and they are friends of our friends on the tri-maran ‘Rikki Tikki Tavi’.
