I figured poor GB could use a break after doing a very intensive 11 days of boat work on the hard in Green Cove Springs, Florida, during early January 2013. (That's him on the ground in pic on the right, painting the last of the bottom paint on the underside of the keel just before…
Hope everyone rang in a very Happy New Year. We celebrated 1/1 aboard The Fox and underway.
GB did an excellent job replacing thru-hulls.They are SOLID, baby. Too bad the toilet irreversibly packed it in as soon as we left the pier. Looks like it's "bucket-and-chuck-it" time on The Fox until we reach Brunswick. I pity the fools what anchor near us. m
I'm so glad you asked. The black plastic mesh landscape fabric we'd wrapped around The Fox before we'd left her, appeared to have successfully protected the topsides from the damaging effects of months of sun and bad weather. Upon removing the fabric we found The Fox grimy but with no obvious damage. Considering The Fox…
Scene 1: 7. Jan. 2013 – Today. Exterior shot of sky. A cool, overcast, winter Monday morning in the boat yard of Green Cove Springs Marina, Florida. Pan downward to boats in yard on jackstands. Sideways pan to ladder leaning against Gallant Fox. Our heroic duo have just climbed into The Fox's cockpit and have…
"Hey, Dude – thanks for replacing the impeller. The engine sounds really happy now." "Yeah, it seems to spitting a lot more water out of the exhaust. It's all good." "I'm going to take a picture of the disintegrated impeller and all the bits you removed from the engine. I want to write a blog…
Yesterday, 3/6, we'd planned an E-Z 10-mi. sail from Isla Linton to Green Turtle Bay. Weather was fine, NE winds12 kt., NE swell 4'-6'. Sadly, Green Turtle Bay = untenable due to NE swell so we sailed the extra 35 mi. to Porvenir in the San Blas islands. About 8 mi. out, rain squall reversed…
Quite a while ago I mentioned some problems we'd been having in the Sea of Cortez, with boobies landing on our boat and…causing problems. Well. Boobies have continued to cause us distress. Allow me to elaborate. We were doing a long-ish crossing of the southern portion of the Sea of Cortez late last December 2009.…
April 28, 2010. Marina Papagayo, Costa Rica. About noon. A small thunderstorm began grumbling to the NE and made its way over the E side of Bahia Culebra. Marina Papagayo is located on the W side of Bahia Culebra so nothing much was happening over our way but in an abundance of caution we unplugged…
…and I mean that literally. GB and I have often discussed that we are sailing long distances on what is now an 8 year old boat, and we have lived aboard continuously for over 7 years. Meaning, all The Fox's systems have been put to continuous long term use in a marine environment, so it…
