We had an urge to keep moving. Especially while the noserly WNW-NNW breezes stayed light.
The sunrise on February 10, 2015, brought the chatter of a flock of parrots and other birds of unknown species to the bay of Puerto Marques. They all seemed to roost in what was left of the jungle foliage on the bay's southern edge that ended in the palapa resort at Punta Diamante. Here's hoping that further development has not evicted them.
We were underway by 0815 and were soon motorsailing 6-8 miles offshore. There were a few fishing pangas close to Acapulco but nowhere else on this leg. A few Olive Ridley sea turtles and one 4' shark passed by, southbound. During the rest of the day and to about 9:00 PM that night, we saw only 4 freighters traveling 8-12 miles offshore. However, later that night and into the next morning, vessel traffic increased and we watched on radar as several commercial fishing boats and freighters dodged one another while mostly leaving The Fox alone. Which was nice.
We made landfall at Zihuatanejo at 0915 the next morning and anchored in 28' in the crowded anchorage closest to town. Underway 115 miles; 25.25 hours total. We hoped to stay a few days for a little R&R in this town we'd enjoyed so much in the past. (#foreshadowing)
