So, we successfully maneuvered our way from Texas and Arizona back to Mazatlan in late July, loaded down with a whole bunch of boat gear and related goodies. GB went straight to work installing our new Sailomat self-steering wind vane on the stern; and our new ICOM 802 SSB radio everywhere else throughout the boat. Both projects are about 95% completed and I'll leave the discussion of the details to GB when he's had a chance to collect his thoughts. I will, though, share with you how hard GB works in the hot sun (90F or more) and humidity (90% or more) of summer in Mazatlan. Check it out:
Here's GB tweaking the Sailomat main apparatus, offset on The Fox's stern so we can still use the swim step.
And here, GB's aloft on the backstay, installing the SSB's antenna wire. I think he liked this task better than inserting the copper foil/RF ground connection along the hull.
While GB worked his little self to a frazzle, my job was to stay out of the way, me being a little light in the tool-skills department. When he didn't need me to find & fetch tools and parts for him, and after I belayed him when he was aloft, I periodically ran other errands and took the opportunity to practice with a fancy new camera & zoom lens we got while in the US. Herewith are pics of some of the residents of Marina El Cid. Like this night heron and brown pelican who hang around the sportfishers' dock, and a couple of the iguanas who've staked out the marina's breakwater area.
